PRINT COVER DESIGN...10 points

In this project you are to design a magazine cover for one of America's premier graphic design periodicals, PRINT. The magazine features contemporary graphic design from all areas. Research the magazine and design a cover using the category listed below. The theme for your cover design is as follows:

Cover Theme
Pick one of the designers listed below and do a cover illustration based on their work. The name of the designer you use should appear somewhere on the cover.

• Paul Rand
• Saul Bass
• April Greiman
• Margo Chase
• Paula Sher
• Neville Brody
• David Carson
• Hillman Curtis
• Kyle Cooper

The DESIGN process is as follows:

1: RESEARCH: If you are not familiar with PRINT, find some back issues and look them over. And/or, buy a recent issue to have on hand.
2: THUMBNAILS:
Six to ten thumbies should be done to preview your concept.
3: ROUGH LAYOUT:
A 1:1 layout is required for final approval. This will include color decisions as well as the style of the image (illustration) to be used.
4: FINISHED COMPREHENSIVE:
A finished comprehensive matted and mounted is required.

Objective:
In this project you are essentially working on cover illustrations. The theme is all important. The media that you decide to use should be determined by the theme as well as what media you feel comfortable using. Designers these days generally use traditional media to preview their ideas and then take the idea via scan and other methods to the computer platform for final output.

Media:
Your choice. Camera ready art for the PRINT logo and cover size format are provided above for download. You will be required to have color output made from your finished file. The covers will be matted and mounted for final
presentation. The details will be given in class.

Working Time:
Please check the MessageBoard and Schedule pages for specific due dates. A class review will conclude this exercise.
