WORD AND IMAGE POSTERS (part 1) ...10 points
Design and execute 4 posters, of exactly the same design, that combine an image/portrait of a famous or infamous person with a related word. The word related to each image can be a name or an association the image brings to mind. Pay close attention to integrating typography with the image through various unit-forming techniques.
The 4 posters shall be:
1. Black & white scheme
2. Complementary color scheme
3. Analogous color scheme
4. Triadic color scheme
Objective:
To explore contrast, balance, rhythm, unity, and typographic hierarchy to create dynamic and compelling poster designs.
For the Color Part of This Project:
Go to the following web site and click on the color sphere link to experiment with various
color relationships until you find a scheme that will work with your original tile design:
Once you have experimented and found a few color schemes that seem to work,
do a screen capture of each (this will be explained in class). For the Mac, a Command>
Shift>4 keyboard combination will give you a crosshair that will save a preview to your
desktop. For the PC, there is a PrtScn on your keyboard that will do the trick.
Open your color screen captures in Photoshop or whatever software your are using and apply your color palettes to your poster design.
Save your design solutions as you proceed.

Limits: Important!
Each layout will be contained within
a 493px (wide) x 657px (tall) space at 72 ppi. Your layout must be oriented vertically (tall). The reason for this size is I will be putting this together as a finished slide show presentation to be viewed online. Details will be given in class.
The process is as follows:
1) RESEARCH: Explore various poster designs. Particularly those that you feel are well
designed.
2) THUMBNAILS: Six to ten thumbies should be completed to test your ideas.
3) ROUGH LAYOUT: 1:1 layouts for each poster will be required for final approval. This will
include color decisions as well as the style of the image to be used.
4) FINISHED PRESENTATION: Project will be presented digitally. Details given in class.
Please Note: There will be a second part to this project. The link below will be activated after the completion of part 1.
